This position will be responsible for supervising the company’s internal art/creative staff, contributing to new product concepts/ideation, and execution of final design and production artwork.
Must be self-motivated, able to manage multiple creative/packaging design projects simultaneously through delegation and hands-on execution, with minimal supervision, delivering results on time and on budget.
_*Essential Functions/Duties:*_ · Lead the in-house creative team through supervision and development of staff members, and work with the Director of Marketing on use of external creative resources as needed to achieve results · Develop recommendations, based on an understanding of retail customer requirements and consumer trends, which contribute to a successful new product development process · Collaborate with the Director of Marketing, Sales leadership, and cross-functional peers; leading the Idea & Design (new product development) process to maximize effective, profitable product innovations, and improvements to existing packaging designs · Facilitate Idea & Design (new product development) committee meetings · Recommend effective product and packaging design solutions to visually represent each product for maximum in-market success, including new products as well as existing product updates · Oversee sample/mockup production in-house and in coordination with external creative resources as needed.
Work with Samples Department, Sales, Packaging Engineer, QA/Lab and Purchasing to develop sales samples for retail presentations, trade shows, and internal (I&D) review · Responsible for the creation of packaging through final art files including layout, color specifications, copy (including full nutritional information supplied by QA Department), illustration and/or photography; and communication with selected print vendors to ensure all details of packaging are complete, correct and on time · Review printer proofs/color drawdowns of all packaging materials during print production process; inspect packaging production samples to confirm quality and color standards are met by vendor · Develop and execute trade collateral, sales materials, product catalogs and print advertising for trade and consumer publication, as needed to support Sales and Marketing efforts · Manage creative content for company website, developing and updating for all seasons annually · Oversee seasonal implementation of social media content · Coordinate creative submission processes for all brand licensing programs · Supervise product photography to meet retailers’ online commerce requirements _*Directly Supervises (Titles)*_*:* Artist/Illustrator Special Products Planner _*Job Qualification Requirements*_ _*Knowledge/Skills:*_ · Conceptual/visual ability, problem solving and creative thinking/originality, with proven ability to create graphic design solutions to meet the needs of the business · Understanding of confectionery industry, retail customer requirements/business relationships, and consumer trends in order to develop effective packaging, display, and advertising solutions · Management/supervision of creative staff · Working knowledge of packaging structure and printing process · Effective management of multiple projects with minimal supervision, meeting all deadlines · Excellent communication skills; able to work effectively with all departments and external partners · Experience with food and/or packaging photography a plus _*Experience:*_ Art/Graphic Design Degree; minimum of ten (10) years of experience in confectionery or other consumer packaged goods industry; management/supervision of staff _*Machines, Tools & Equipment (Office & Industrial), Software:*_ Software: Adobe Creative Suite, Office, Fetch, Quark Xpress, WordPress, InDesign Machines: Mac, PC, plus large-scale mockup printers including: Epson Pro, Mimaki, LogoJet.
_*Physical Activities/Requirements/Conditions:*_ This position involves sedentary work in an office environment.
This position requires the ability to function and perform the tasks found in a traditional office setting.
However, it does require occasional work in a manufacturing, warehouse, and distribution environment.
